About to start your search for your dream dress, make sure you read these essential tips first!
SET A BUDGET
Unless you have an unlimited budget, its important to have a top spend in mind when you go dress shopping. Bear in mind that you need to include your alterations and accessories in your bridal dress budget.
GIVE YOURSELVES PLENTY OF TIME TO FIND THE DRESS
Wedding Dresses take longer than you think to order, so make sure you allow at least 9 months to order your dress, they are made to order not made to measure. If you do need a dress in less time than 9 months, we have designers that have dresses in stock.
FORGET SAY YES TO THE DRESS
Forget a fifteen strong posse of friends and family, just choose two or three important people who will give you an honest opinion, but not blunt to the point of hurting your feelings, who will respect your taste and budget.
HAVE AN OPEN MIND
You might go into your appointment only wanting certain styles, but try to have an open mind when selecting your dresses. Trust that our bridal consultants know each dress and how it looks and what works for certain body types, as the dresses can be deceiving on the hanger.
HUNTING FOR YOUR DRESS
Pick out two to three Wedding Boutiques you would like to visit, don't visit more than this number of shops as you will get completely overwhelmed.
DON'T COUNT ON WEIGHT LOSS
We can't stress this enough, we measure you for the dress in the size you are currently, rather than the size you are hoping to be on your wedding day. That is what fittings and alterations and it is much easier to take a dress in than let it out. It also means you won't be putting undue pressure on yourselves, in the lead up to the wedding. Remember that wedding dress sizes are not the same as high street sizes.
ITS THE DRESS
Everyone always says you will be able to tell its 'the one' but sometimes its not that simple. You may not cry, your mother may not cry. Three signs that you love your dress are, you can't stop smiling, you can't stop looking at yourself in mirror, and you don't want to take it off. If you don't buy it on your first visit, and you can't stop thinking about it after you left the shop, then its the one for you.
ONCE YOU FOUND THE DRESS - STOP SHOPPING!
When you have found your dress, then you need to follow this one rule to avoid dress regret. STOP SHOPPING. If you keep looking on Instagram, Pinterest and websites then you are likely to start worrying about whether you have made the right choice. Be secure in the knowledge that you looked beautiful in your choice, and just look forward to when you walk down the aisle.
Don't let people stress you out about your dress not being in the store 3 months before the wedding. At L'Amour Bride we have our independent dressmaker, who has many many years of experience and normally do our fittings anything from 6 weeks to 2 weeks before the wedding in order that on the day your dress fits perfectly. Shapes change before the wedding with the stress, and therefore the later you have the dress fitted the better. The least stress you put on the fabric with all the alterations, the better it is for the dress shape.
